My Word, My Promise, My Cry

During my last tour of Caracol, something became clear: Belize is being developed for cruise tourism.

And while that’s welcomed by many, it’s not the tourism experience that Belize With Alvin is here to deliver.

I refuse to cattlelize the human experience.

We need more personalized adventures, more quiet, more real moments — now more than ever. Because we’re losing nature faster than we realize. And the more we entertain guests, the less time we spend asking why we should protect what’s around us.

✊🏾 I Grew Up With These Places

That’s why I hate when people bring boom boxes into nature. I get it — I did the same thing when I was younger. I took music to the river. That was our vibe back then.

But I’ve changed.

I wanted to see animals. I wanted real encounters. So I stopped making noise and started paying attention to what’s still listening.

Now, I hear the birds return when it’s quiet. I see the fish move upstream. I feel the trees breathing again.

🌿 We Forget How Delicate This Is

Touch a coral and part of it dies. Too much sunscreen in the river changes everything — even if you can’t see it right away.

And in the same way, every manatee, every jaguar accidentally killed — especially if it’s a female — is a loss we rarely talk about. But that’s one less in the wild. One less heartbeat out there.

We have elaborate funerals for humans these days. But how often do we stop and think about the animals?

Sometimes all it takes is to pay more attention and care a little more.

Even organizations like Oceana Belize have called for more sustainable marine protection.

🧓🏾 This Didn’t Start With Me

Back in the early 2000s, Mr. Daniel Silva and my grandfather Jack (Carlton Young) teamed up to help protect the Nassau grouper. I didn’t realize it then, but my time was coming to give a louder voice to that effort.

And now I see it clearly: Belize is struggling to balance tourism and protection. I want to be part of the side that speaks up — not just smiles for photos.

🛳️ This Isn’t About Hating Cruise Tourism

I’m not condemning cruise tourism. Not at all.

But let’s be honest — when the model is large-scale and high-volume, there’s not much space left for education or connection. We risk losing what makes Belize Belize.

Maybe — just maybe — we can be the ones who show the world how to care again.

The Maya, the Romans — they knew people liked to be entertained. But never in history have humans had the capacity to destroy this fast.

📣 So to the People in the AC Offices and the Fancy Vehicles…

Take a moment. Step back. Listen.

The ones on the frontlines — the park rangers, the tour guides, the site stewards — we are your eyes and ears. Your five senses.

We tell you what’s happening.
Are you listening?

🤲🏾 I Am Alvin Brown

And this is my word, my promise, and my cry for Belize.

This isn’t just a brand. It’s a promise rooted in my life. Read more about what Belize With Alvin means to me.

🧭 Closing Note

If you’re looking for a tour, find one that slows down. That listens. That lets you feel the rain. That sees animals not as a bonus, but as neighbors.

Belize With Alvin isn’t just about places. It’s about how we move through them.
