Walk With Me: Finding Something Real in Belize
When I started Belize With Alvin, it wasn’t because I thought the world needed another tour company. If you look around, there are plenty—some big, some small, some so polished they feel almost unreal.
I wanted something different. Something that felt more like an invitation than a transaction.
A Country That Raised Me
I grew up in Placencia, when the village still ran on diesel generators and the sidewalks were just plans in someone’s notebook. I remember the smell of sea breeze mixing with kerosene lamps, the way the whole village would come alive when the shrimp trawlers docked, and the thrill of pushing wheelbarrows along the docks to fetch ice.
Sometimes, we’d wait along the shore for the baitfish to move north. When the pelicans began diving, it meant the big fish were close, and all the kids would run down the beach. That was adventure to me—not something you bought, but something you felt in your bones.
Those memories shaped me. They taught me that the best experiences aren’t necessarily the ones you plan. They’re the ones you’re present enough to notice.

A Place of Old Stories and New Beginnings
Later, I moved inland to San Ignacio. I began guiding travelers into caves where the ancient Maya once prayed for rain, or through temples that still hold the echoes of a civilization both brilliant and human.
I’ve watched guests stand in front of a thousand-year-old carving and suddenly realize history isn’t just in books—it’s under their feet, all around them. I’ve seen people arrive thinking they were here for a vacation and leave feeling like they found something they didn’t know they were missing.
Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what Belize gives you. It’s not just the wildlife or the ruins or the perfect photos. It’s the quiet sense that you’ve come somewhere real. Somewhere that doesn’t pretend to be more than it is, and yet somehow feels like more than you expected.
A Commitment to Something Deeper
I’m not interested in selling Belize as a product. I’m interested in sharing it as a place that shaped who I am—and still shapes me every day.
That’s why I try to guide with respect:
✅ For the people who still farm the land the Maya once walked.
✅ For the animals whose lives intersect with ours.
✅ For the culture that continues to evolve in a thousand little ways.
Belize deserves more than a passing glance. It deserves curiosity. It deserves care.
An Invitation
If you’re reading this and wondering what it might be like to walk here with me, I hope you’ll consider it.
Not because I have the most polished tours or the fanciest vehicles. But because I promise you something real:
A chance to see Belize the way I do.
A chance to slow down long enough to feel it.
A chance to remember that some places—and some people—are worth more than what fits in a brochure.
