Honey Camp Lagoon, located in the district of Orange Walk in Belize, is a freshwater lagoon that archeologists refer to as “Laguna de on”. Archeologists have discovered many fascinating things at Honey Camp Lagoon over the years. Evidence of the Maya civilization has been found throughout the lagoon, including a shrine on the largest island. This shrine provides insight into the ancient Maya customs of ancestor worship and rain-god ceremonies that were performed from 1000 AD to 1500 AD (classic/early post-classic period).
